Breaking Free: Living a First-Hand Life in a Second-Hand World

Have you ever felt like you were living your life through others? It’s time to step forward and experience life firsthand!

In our journey through society’s expectations, many find ourselves compromising and putting our needs second. This article explores the consequences of a second-hand life and urges those in their 20s to 40s to break free from this pattern.

Mirroring Others: Reflecting on a Life Lived Second-hand

Drawing inspiration from Ayn Rand’s character Howard Roark in “The Fountainhead,” the article emphasizes the importance of unswerving devotion to one’s thinking and judgment, refusing to compromise values, and staying true to one’s true nature.

The Altruistic Paradox: When Self-Sacrifice Masks Self-Eradication

The article delves into the paradox of selflessness, highlighting how sacrificing oneself for approval can lead to the erosion of personal identity. It challenges the notion that selflessness is enviable, exposing its toll on physical and psychological health. I worked behind the scenes in education for 50 years, eventually realizing the need to shed masks and actively live life firsthand.

Unmasking the Conspiracy: Work, Status, and the Workforce Creation

A societal conspiracy perpetuates a cycle of working for others for decades, neglecting personal passions and happiness. Education systems are conveyor belts for creating a workforce and neglecting individual learning styles. When I retired from my public career, the shock and exhaustion I experienced was slowly followed by a conscious decision to redefine personal success and live authentically.

Rediscovering the Self: The Journey to Releasing My Authentic Nature

I leveraged my inner resources like writing and spiritual training to reach this point. Through mindfulness and meditation, I maintained a connection with my true nature and embraced fully the importance of personal fulfilment at the core of life.

Elevating Dreams: Stepping into the Foreground After Years Backstage

The transition from a supporting role to a leadership position, confident in using creative power and self-belief to revolutionize traditional education, is essential for change. I want to encourage all individuals to live firsthand, pursue personal goals, and positively impact the world.

Crafting a Life of Value: Consciously Cultivating the Earth with Our Ideals

We need to dedicate ourselves to reshaping the world based on personal values. Drawing inspiration from Ayn Rand’s cardinal values – reason, purpose, and self-esteem – I advocate for identifying and living by these values. Creativity is highlighted as transformative, with happiness as the ultimate goal achieved through personal achievement and self-fulfilment.

This article serves as the foundation for future writings, promising deeper exploration of the concepts mentioned and sharing firsthand living experiences. It is essential to prime the well of your creativity and let its pure water flow out into the world.

This mindset will enable you to open up to the Universe and attract wealth, good health, good fortune and success.

    • Hi again, Starlight. Thanks for this perceptive comment. I’m glad you found my journey interesting.

Personal power? Because of my spiritual training and general strong self-belief, I managed to survive, though as I mentioned, I saw my role as a vocational one so it was difficult to switch off. As soon as I recovered from retiring, I could feel my veins flooding with power and freedom. I soon zoomed into action and focused on me and my dreams!  It was exhilarating!

I feel as if life has begun again so I’m really fired up and truly enjoying working for myself with myself.

      Blessings.

  3. Hi Linden, great article, it really resonates with me, I wish I had come across it 10 years earlier, as it is a lot of what you have mentioned here I am now just starting to learn myself and work through it. You mention the school cycle, I am now speaking to my kids more about there dreams and what they truly want, as I believe if we can unlock that from them, that dream wil spur them to get the education and use it for what they want!

really great article Linden, I enjoy visiting this site and look forward to reading more!!

    • Hi Ryan,

Yes, the young generation need to know they have many more choices than they think they do in life. Encouraging them to make their happiness their moral priority is so important. Teaching them that the way they think -the quality of each thought with its attendant feeling – creates their world is another key lesson. Positive thinking will attract positive results and outcomes!

Blessings for the happiness of your children and you.

This article highlights the importance of introspection and making deliberate choices to forge our own paths. It’s a refreshing perspective that encourages breaking free from the cycle of second-hand living. It would be interesting to explore strategies on how to consistently apply these principles amidst everyday pressures and distractions.

    • Corey,

Both your mindful journey and your first-hand life need to start from 2 foundations:

      gratitude

      – for all that you have

      happiness

      – the what-who-how-where of how you can be truly happy.

Both of these depend on feelings. So, think of gratitude for your life and your next breath and feel the love and miracle of that. The same with happiness – think about what makes you truly happy – or maybe you haven’t found it yet. It seems that you need to get back in touch with your feelings and higher self.

Hope this helps. Blessings and success and happiness.
